| Metrologic Instruments, Inc. Blackwood Metrologicis a leading manufacturer of laser and holographic bar code scanning equipment. Founded by C. Harry Knowles in 1968, Metrologic was the first company to put laser technology in the hands of hobbyists and science teachers, offering a line of educational laser products that are still on the market today. Today, Metrologic produces a wide range of bar code scanning products as well, which have been developed over the Company's 32-year history. Metrologic's hand-held and fixed projection scanners are used in many familiar settings, including check-out counters at supermarkets, apparel stores, home centers, video stores, libraries, and bookstores, in addition to less traditional places like airports for processing passenger tickets. The Company also offers a myriad of industrial units for warehousing, container loading and parcel tracking applications and mini scan engines OEM integration. Since the adoption of the Universal Product Code (UPC) in the 1973, the need for scanners has grown rapidly, and Metrologic inventions have advanced the state of the art in scanning technology for customers worldwide. The Companys list of industry "firsts" is impressive, as illustrated by a patent portfolio of more than 90 current patents. Among Metrologic's innovations is a triggerless scanner. Through a patented process, an infrared sensor in the scanner senses a bar code and turns on the laser. The laser then automatically reads and transmits the bar code data. In January 2000, Metrologic went one step further, introducing a hand-held scanner with CodeGate pushbutton data transmission technology. Another key Metrologic invention, the HoloTrak holographic scanner, has raised the industry standard for high speed and high volume scanning applications. The secret behind HoloTrak is a "holodisc" which replaces conventional scanning techniques. The disc creates 5,600 or more scan lines per second in multiple focal planes all the way down to the conveyor belt, creating a rectangular scan volume that can read bar codes even at the far corners of each parcel. Metrologics most comprehensive HoloTrak-based system is called the HoloTunnel, which scans, weighs, dimensions and tracks parcels on high-speed conveyors. The majority of Metrologic bar code scanners are designed, developed and manufactured at the company's corporate headquarters in Blackwood, New Jersey. Metrologic's products are sold in more than 90 countries worldwide through the company's sales, service and distribution offices in North America, Europe, Asia and South America. |
